Colorado's current passenger-vehicle chain law says that when the chain law is active, every vehicle must use chains or an approved alternative traction device. These examples are not a nationwide rule and can change.
If the road requires a device that the vehicle manual does not permit, the safe choice may be a manufacturer-approved alternative, a different wheel-and-tire setup expressly allowed by the manufacturer, another route, or postponing travel. A posted requirement does not create physical clearance that the vehicle lacks.
Match the chain to the tire, not just the vehicle
